Statistics is a branch of science which deals with the collection and interpretation of numerical facts. In modern times, statistics is not only a device for collecting numerical data but a means of developing sound techniques for their handling, analysis and drawing valid inferences from them. When the statistical concepts are applied to physics the new branch of physics comes into being called statistical physics. In this branch, we are more concerned with the system as a whole rather than the individual particles or molecules forming the system. Statistical mechanics studies some average or most probable properties of the system without going into interior details of the characteristics of its constituents. In statistical mechanics, larger the number of particles in a physical system, the more accurate is the results of statistical mechanics. Statistical mechanics is classified into two categories, classical statistics and quantum statistics. Classical statistics explains many phenomenon like temperature, pressure, energy etc. whereas quantum statistics explain the black body radiation, specific heat or low temperature etc. quantum statistics is further classified into two categories, Bose Einstein statistics and Fermi Dirac statistics.
