Desktop publishing is about using a specific type of software to combine and rearrange text and images and creating digital files. Desktop publishing is used to create the visual display of ideas and information. It can be used for desktop or commercial printing or electronic distribution. Desktop publishing is commonly known as DTP. Desktop publishing uses the computer to produce documents such as newsletters, brochures, books, and other publications. All such documents were initially created manually using a variety of non-computer techniques along with large complex phototypesetting machines. But now all such documents are created with the help of DTP software. Desktop publishing is the technical assembly of digital files in the proper format for printing. Consumer-level desktop publishing software packages are used in homes and small business that are designed for non-designers while the other graphic designers utilize high-end applications designed for professional and high-volume use. The documents created by different software of DTP could be different but despite the differences in the software, types of documents created, and where the software is used, all these types of uses comes under desktop DTP.
